Things to do
Less than ten minutes to the north of the villa is the ethereal Tanah Lot sea temple, a rocky island temple that is said to have been created the 16th century. At low tide you can visit a small cave where a Hindu priest will offer a blessing. There is also a beach cave that houses a famous sacred sea snake, which has a priest guardian.
The award-winning Greg Norman-designed Nirwana Bali Golf Club is very close to the villa. Golfers will be delighted to play this course where players must hit from cliff to cliff. This breathtakingly beautiful course is among the most photographed golfing destinations in the world.
Sensational surf beaches are close at hand with the celebrated Echo Beach break is just down the coast.Closer to home are the Rivermouth break at the Pererenan stairs and Sandbanks break, which is good for body boarding, but watch the currents. Longboarders can hit Old Mans at Batu Bolong, which is a 20-minute drive south.
Dining options at Echo Beach are fantastic with cheap and cheerful warungs (local cafes) and seafood barbeques. A wonderful Australian-style café called Grocer and Grind produces divine salads, burgers, cakes and superb coffee. There are good gelato shops and ice creameries plus day spas, beach bars, a barber that offers a traditional shave, and surf gear galore.
Horse riding is offered at a nearby stable that practices Natural Horsemanship skills. They will lead a two-hour ride through local villages, passing through rice fields and trotting along the beach with some creek crossings. Cycling tourist are also available along with ATV, – or quad bike – riding along the black sands.
Dirt Bike – be picked up from the villa and taken deep into the jungle for some serious dirt bike riding on single tracks with some freaky twisties. Riding skills for the absolute beginners is also on offer.
Just one-hour north will have you gasping at the extraordinary beauty of Jatiluwih – the UNESCO listed verdant rice terraces that unfold down the side of a cool mountain range. While you are on the mountain drop into Treetops – a fantastic adventure park that will have old and young folk rigged up and swinging from the trees inside Bali’s captivating Botanic Gardens.
For a superb day out visit the Canggu Club, which is little more than a 15-minute drive away and is a major entertainment destination in Bali. On site is awater park, a 25-metre lap pool overlooking lotus ponds, a indoor ten pin bowling alley and Bali’s only trampoline centre that has brilliant disco parties for the kids and teens every Friday and Saturday night plus hourly sessions and exercise classes during the week. There is a gymwith a broad program of daily fitness classes, bootcamp and yoga, a spa and salon plus an international grade tennis courts. The Junior Sports Academy runs daily sports camps including dance, soccer, AFL, swimming and tennis over the two peak holiday seasons and visitors are welcome to enrol. The Canggu Club has a range of dining options including cafes and bars to keep everyone energised.
Locally, guests will never tire of eating options with a range of tourist-friendly local warungs(cafés) at the endof the street that produce espresso coffee along side the traditional Kopi Bali. Just 20-minutes away – is the buzzing hub of Batu Bolong. Here you will find fabulous French breads and pastries from Monsieur Spoon,
Upscale Mexican at Lacalita – Bar y Cocina, the elegant Dandelion Warung which is a stunning restaurant offering delicious dishes, a hip beachside beergarden at Old Man’s, rarefied five star dining or sensational sushi at the Tugu Hotel plus outstanding weekly Balinese cultural and dance performances. The uber-cool Deus ex Machinas’ Temple of Enthusiasm – the love child of Dare Jennings’ Australian 100% Mambo-label – merges custom motor bike creations with surf and skate-board shaping, art, beer and food, live music and fashion under one roof surrounded by lush rice fields.
